My babes… they are why I do it.
Your babes… they are why I do it.
We can’t get moments in time back. We wake up, get started in our day, rush around a bit, perhaps take a minute or two to enjoy a cup of coffee or a silly story your babe is telling you and then we continue on. That just isn’t enough. One day, they will be grown and we won’t be able to hug them the way we do now, cuddle with them when they are sick or tickle them down to the ground. They will grow up, move on and start lives of their own…
I can’t imagine that…
So, I take pictures. All the time. It is too important not to. I can take a minute to pause and look at this portrait of my daughter and know this- she loves- no really, adores- reading. Reading and journaling. She can sit forever and do it. I think it’s rather interesting that a three year old has the ability to do what she does. It is amazing to me! I don’t want to forget this chapter in her life. If I didn’t document these moments, I just might. This portrait of Reagan brings me back to that moment. It was a moment where we were scurrying around the house after having eaten breakfast and getting ready to run out the door. She wandered off by herself and I found her in my studio area having pushed this chair against the window and reading a textbook. (Ok, so she isn’t REALLY reading, but she sure thinks she is!)
It took my breath away.
It still does and forever will.
I can’t tell you what I ate yesterday for lunch and I am so disappointed to say that names are usually a challenge, but I tell you this. I will remember this moment for the rest of my life. I will remember that my sweet daughter loved to journal and read and enjoy a little quiet time to herself. I might not remember it so passionately if I didn’t have the portrait to tell the story.
Don’t forget about your stories…
