It’s cute, who cares?

I was hanging a few things on the wall the other day and I was thinking about the right way I could be doing it and the fun cute way I chose instead. I used my cute hammer. Yes, the name is even “cute tools.” We have “real” hammers, but for small projects I like to use the cute hammer that feels pretty to carry around. It even had a green ribbon on it, but I lost that along the way somewhere. Then I also used brown nails that were totally the wrong nail, but I liked them because they were brown and not an just the regular metal. It fit the mood I was in. I also used my handy little measuring tape and level. That, my husband was proud of me for. (Aren’t those cool?! I got them not too long ago to give clients. I have a couple of them in different rooms of the house because I use them ALL the time!) While my husband and father would roll their eyes at my superficial ideas here, I couldn’t care in the least. I know that for the project I did, it didn’t REALLY matter what nail I used and I also knew the hammer would work just fine.

I started thinking about this little episode I had on a different level. See, it’s very important to know the technical aspects to photography. You need to know the right settings for your camera (auto just doesn’t cut it!), the right camera to pick up and which lens to put on it. The list is a ton longer then those three tidbits, but I will spare you the exciting jargon. (I think I have put Sam to sleep over such conversation!) The thing is, once you know what you are doing- once you have nailed the technical aspects of photography you can start breaking the rules. That is where the creativity comes in. That’s the part that I love. So why don’t you go try it out… First step- learn your technical info. (That’s the unfun part… sorry.) So learn it, then mix it up a bit! Start breaking the rules and see what happens. You just might be glad that you did!
